Emsculpt: Before and After
When is the best time to take pictures?
Made by BTL Industries, Emsculpt NEO is a non-invasive body contouring device that is able to target both muscle and fat in the treated body area. BTL industries has become a global leader in the medical aesthetic industry since it was founded in 1991. This company specializes in the development and manufacturing of non-invasive body contouring devices which are used in medical spas, aesthetic clinics, hospitals, and cosmetic offices around the world.
Emsculpt NEO, developed and produced by BTL Industries, is a non-invasive body contouring device that uses a combination of two technologies to both increase muscle and decrease fat. The two technologies utilized by the device are high-intensity focused electromagnetic (HIFEM) energy and radiofrequency (RF) energy. The HIFEM energy causes muscle in the treated areas to contract at a more complete and higher intensity level than is possible through regular weight lifting or exercise, thereby building muscle in that area, The RF energy heats fat cells in the treated area and subsequently reduces fat while tightening skin in the treated areas. Using these two energies together allow for a more comprehensive treatment. Emsculpt NEO is a safe, painless treatment typically performed in a series of sessions requiring no recovery time.
Results
Emscuplt NEO treatment has been shown in clinical studies to result in an average subcutaneous fat reduction of 30%, and an average increase in muscle mass of 25%. In addition, some patients may also see an improvement in skin tightening. Since a typical treatment is four sessions over the course of a month, results from treatment with Emsculpt NEO may not be immediately visible and may take time to develop.
When do you see results with Emsculpt NEO?
While after treatment with Emsculpt NEO some people report seeing an improvement in tone almost instantly, these are a short-term effect of the “muscular pump” produced in treatment. This “muscular pump” is not the permanent result that comes from Emscupt NEO, and is similar to the “pump” seen after resistance training as well. It is a sign that the muscle has been working and has increased blood flow in the area. The permanent real improvements from Emsculpt NEO are seen starting around 4 weeks, and are a true muscle mass increase in the treated area.
In clinical studies, results have been sustained at about one month. Although patients typically see the permanent improvements in muscle growth and fat loss right after their final session (around 4 weeks), these improvements will continue to progress for about 3 to 4 months.

In Clinical studies results have shown an average fat reduction of 30% in the abdomen, thighs, love handles, and arms, along with an average increase in muscle of 25%.
Emsculpt NEO treatment can be specifically programmed to produce the desired results according to the patient’s goals and the area they want treated.
For example, in the buttock area, we turn off the high energy RF to prevent loss of fat, while the HIFEM energy is used to increase muscle mass. This 25% increased muscle creates a more lifted and shapely butt, along with an increase in strength. Similar settings can be used for the arms as well, if a patient is looking to just increase muscle mass rather than to reduce fat as well in that area. Overall, the RF and HIFEM can be adjusted depending on the patients’ goals, to either reduce fat, increase muscle, or do both in a given area.
How do you take the best Before and After Images?
To best determine and document the results of a treatment or procedure, it is important to take good before and after images. We have listed some good tips for taking effective before/after images below.
- Use the same background and lighting for each picture. Studio lighting or natural light against a plain wall or neutral background works well.
- Use the same camera settings: The focal length, aperture, and ISO for the before and after images must be the same.
- The angle and distance to the subject in the images must be the same.
- Use a tripod: To help provide a steady and consistent position, a tripod works best for holding the camera in the before and after pictures.
- Use a measuring tool: Taking measurements of treated body parts with a tape measure or ruler before and after treatment, as well as in the images, can help ensure accuracy.
- Take more than one image of befores and afters: Several images from different angles and distances helps to capture the best view of the body part being treated.
- Take images at the correct times: Before images should be taken before any treatment of the area, while after images should be taken at the end of treatment, or when results are fully visible.
- Wear the same clothing in all images: The subject should wear the same, or similar, clothing in all of the before and after images.
Following these tips can help ensure your before and after images are consistent and accurate. Consistent and accurate before/after images allows you to document the results of your treatment or procedure.
