Chemical Peels at The Dermatology and Laser Group in New York

Chemical peels are a non-invasive skin resurfacing treatment that uses a chemical solution to exfoliate the top layers of skin. They help improve the appearance of fine lines, hyperpigmentation, acne scars, and other skin concerns by promoting cell turnover and revealing fresher, more radiant skin underneath.

At The Dermatology and Laser Group, we offer a variety of chemical peels for our NYC patients that we customize for their specific needs.

Chemical Peels We Offer

VI Peels

VI Peels are a popular brand of medium-depth chemical peels designed to treat a variety of skin concerns while being gentle on the skin. They’re known for their effectiveness in treating pigmentation, acne, and aging without significant downtime. We offer two types of VI Peels at our practice:

VI Peel Precision Plus

The VI Peel Precision Plus is specially formulated to treat pigmentation issues like sun spots, age spots, and melasma. This peel uses a blend of powerful ingredients, including TCA (trichloroacetic acid), Retinoic Acid, Salicylic Acid, and Vitamin C, to even out skin tone, reduce hyperpigmentation, and promote a more youthful complexion.

VI Peel Purify with Precision Plus

The VI Peel Purify with Precision Plus is designed for individuals with acne-prone skin and pigmentation issues. This peel combines the acne-fighting ingredients of the original VI Peel Purify with the pigmentation-targeting benefits of Precision Plus, helping to clear breakouts while reducing the appearance of acne scars and dark spots.

Other Chemical Peels We Offer

In addition to VI Peels, we also offer the following chemical peels tailored to address specific skin concerns:

  • Jessner’s Peel: A medium-depth peel that treats acne, sun damage, and pigmentation with a blend of lactic acid, salicylic acid, and resorcinol.
  • Salicylic Acid Peel: Ideal for acne-prone skin, this peel deeply exfoliates, unclogs pores, and reduces inflammation.
  • Glycolic Acid Peel: A superficial peel that brightens the skin and smooths texture, commonly used for mild hyperpigmentation and sun damage.
  • TCA Peel: A medium-depth peel effective in treating deeper wrinkles, scars, and pigmentation. It penetrates more deeply than other superficial peels, making it ideal for more significant skin concerns.

Chemical Peels

What is a Chemical Peel?

A chemical peel is a procedure where a chemical solution is applied to the skin, causing the top layers to peel off. The treatment helps rejuvenate the skin by reducing imperfections like acne scars, sun damage, fine lines, and discoloration, and promotes the growth of new, smoother skin.

How Does a Chemical Peel Work?

The chemical solution used in a peel penetrates the skin, exfoliating dead skin cells and stimulating new cell growth. The latter rejuvenating effect is the main benefit of chemical peels—peeling is a natural part of the process but not the primary goal. Different peels work at various depths (superficial, medium, or deep) to address specific skin concerns. After the peeling process, the skin reveals a refreshed, more even-toned complexion.

What to Expect During a Peel

A chemical peel treatment typically lasts about 15 minutes. The skin is cleansed, and the chemical solution is carefully applied. You may feel a slight tingling or burning sensation as the solution works to exfoliate the skin. Once the solution has been applied for the appropriate amount of time, some peels require it to neutralized and removed. Other peels are allowed to stay on and self-neutralize. Some peels may also require a post-treatment regimen to maximize results.

What to Expect After a Chemical Peel Treatment

After a chemical peel, your skin may feel tight and slightly red, similar to a mild sunburn. Over the next few days, you will likely experience some peeling as the dead skin sheds, revealing fresher, smoother skin. Post-treatment care typically includes keeping the skin moisturized and protected from the sun. Recovery time varies depending on the depth of the peel, with lighter peels requiring minimal downtime and deeper peels requiring a week or more.

Frequently Asked Questions

How much is a peel?

The cost of a chemical peel will depend on the area being treated, the number of treatment sessions in your package, and the type of peel we are performing.  We would be happy to provide a quote for the exact pricing for your particular treatment.

How often can I get a chemical peel?

The frequency depends on the type of peel. Superficial peels can be done every 4 to 6 weeks, while deeper peels may require more time between sessions for the skin to fully heal.

What is the downtime after a chemical peel?

Downtime varies depending on the peel’s strength. Lighter peels generally have no downtime, while medium or deep peels may require a few days to a week of recovery with visible peeling.

Can chemical peels be combined with other treatments?

Yes, chemical peels can be combined with treatments like Botox and Emface. These combinations complement each other well, as chemical peels focus on improving the skin’s surface by addressing texture and pigmentation, while Botox works deeper to relax muscles and reduce wrinkles. Emface, on the other hand, helps with lifting and contouring by targeting deeper structures of the face, providing an overall rejuvenating effect when paired with a chemical peel.

Will I see results after one peel?

While many patients notice improvements after one peel, multiple sessions are often recommended for optimal results, especially for deeper skin concerns like scars or pigmentation, or for chronic conditions such as acne.
