FACE AND NECK PROCEDURES

Neuromodulators are injectable medications that are primarily used to relax muscles that cause wrinkles and drooping in the face and neck.  Our favored products at The Dermatology and Laser Group are Botox, Daxxify, and Xeomin. The most popular ares to treat with Botox are the crow's feet, forehead, and between the eyebrows.  On the face and neck, other areas treated include the platysmal bands, lateral eyebrows for brow lift, and upper lip for a lip flip.

We use a variety of fillers for cosmetic treatments of the face and neck including hyaluronic acid products from RHA, Juvederm, and Restylane, as well as the biostimulatory fillers Radiesse and Sculptra.  For all of our filler procedures we stress safety and natural results.  Common areas we use filler include the under eye areas, temples, cheeks, chin, and jawline.

Dr. Arash Akhavan of The Dermatology and Laser Group was one of the first physicians in the United States to offer Skinvive injections, and is an educator for Allergan, teaching other physicians techniques for Skinvive injections. Skinvive is our first product approved for use by the FDA in a new class of injectables called skin boosters.  Skinvive produces smoother skin, that is hydrated and glows.

We are one of the most popular practices in New York City for lip filler, specializing in natural appearing results. Many of the celebrities you see on film and in magazines have had their lip filler done by Dr. Arash Akhavan (hint: They are the ones that look like they were naturally blessed with great lips!).

Fractional Laser Resurfacing activates the body's wound healing pathway to get new collagen production in the skin.  This can be used to treat wrinkles, acne scars, and to generally rejuvenate the skin.

Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) is an energy based device that treats sun spots and blood vessels anywhere on the body, including the face and neck.  An IPL PhotoFacial is a great way to reverse sun damage but it does not produce collagen.  To treat sun damage and rejuvenate the skin by producing collagen we sometimes combine IPL with fractional laser resurfacing in a procedure called PhotoFractional.

More powerful fractional laser resurfacing has the capability to produce enough collagen to actually produce skin tightening.  Some lasers, such as the powerful AcuPulse CO2 laser produce enough skin tightening that they actually have a non-surgical facelift and neck lift effect.

Laser sun spot removal of the face and neck (and body) is one of the most commonly requested procedures in our office. We use a variety of lasers and technologies to reverse sun damage including PicoWay and IPL.

Ultherapy is the most powerful aesthetic device on the market and the only device with FDA clearance for lifting.  Ultherapy can be used on the brow, lower face and jawline, neck and double chin area, and décolleté.

TempSure is a radiofrequency (RF) device that produces collagen and elastin anywhere on the face, neck, and body.  The best things about TempSure is that it is painless and without any downtime.

Emface is a first of its kind device that uses HIFES and RF energy to build muscle tone in the face and collagen and elastin in the skin.  It lifts and smooths the forehead, cheeks, and jawline, and it is also an excellent double chin treatment. Emface is Dr. Arash Akhavan's favorite device for face rejuvenation.

Medical microneedling is a non-energy based method to rejuvenate the skin.  Similar to fractional laser resurfacing, microneedling also produces tiny punctures in the skin that activate the body's wound healing pathway to generate collagen and elastin.

Potenza is a radiofrequency microneedling device made by Cynosure.  We think that Cynosure Potenza is the best RF microneedling device on the market because of its lower energy use compared to other devices.  Unfortunately most other RF microneedling devices produce too much heat producing tracts of scarring and loss of subcutaneous fat.

HydraFacial is the most popular complete facial device on the market.  HydraFacial combines aspects of microdermabrasion, a traditional facial, and a light chemical peel for a relaxing and efficacious facial.

Regenerative aesthetics is a newer branch of cosmetic dermatology that utilizes the body's own regenerative capabilities to rejuvenate appearance of the face, neck, body, scalp, and genitals. Platelet rich plasma (PRP) uses circulating growth factors in the blood to stimulate growth.  There are now commercially available products such as AnteAge Growth Factors and Exosome solutions that have even more growth factors than we have in PRP.  Exosomes are tiny vesicles that are found in and around cells that have very high concentrations of growth factors.

Chemical Peels are a quick, easy, and inexpensive face and neck rejuvenation procedure that can help treat acne blemishes, active acne, discoloration, and rejuvenate the skin. At our office we love the versatility of the VI Peel system in our office.

Our office specializes in acne scar treatment using a variety of modalities including fractional laser resurfacing, medical microneedling, and chemical peels.  We combine these treatments with other procedures such as subcision, acne scar surgery, biostimulatory fillers, and regenerative aesthetic techniques to boost results.

Melasma is one of the most distressing conditions for women who visit our office. Melasma treatment is notoriously difficult but we have two great options for our patients including PicoWay, one of the only lasers FDA cleared for melasma.  We also treat melasma with AnteAGE Growth Factor Brightening treatment with tranexamic acid.
