Baby Botox & Preventative Botox in NYC: Stop Wrinkles Before They Start
The Secret to Aging Gracefully (Not Frozen)
Medically Reviewed by Arash Akhavan, MD, FAAD
The best time to treat a wrinkle is before it stays. For a new generation of patients in New York, the goal of aesthetic treatment has shifted from "correction" to "prevention." Baby Botox (also known as Preventative Botox) is the art of using micro-doses of neurotoxin to soften muscle movement without freezing it. At The Dermatology and Laser Group, we specialize in this subtle approach. By strategically treating the muscles early, we can stop lines from etching into the skin, keeping your face fresh, youthful, and completely natural. New York City professional that wish to have natural Botox treatments in NYC have trusted The Dermatology and Laser Group for over 18 years!
What is Preventative Botox?
Think of your skin like a piece of paper. If you fold it effectively over and over (by frowning or raising your eyebrows), eventually a permanent crease forms. Preventative Botox works by weakening the force of that fold. We use lighter doses of Botox precisely placed to relax the muscle just enough to prevent the deep etching of lines, while still allowing you to maintain movement and expression. It is not about looking "done"—it is about pressing pause on the aging process. With Baby Botox the exact placement of the Botox is even more important. Because of the lower doses being used, if the product is not placed precisely it can end up having a very short duration of efficacy.
Baby Botox vs. Standard Botox: What’s the Difference?
The difference lies in the dosage and the technique. Standard Botox is often used to correct deep, static lines that are already visible when your face is at rest. Baby Botox uses significantly fewer units, scattered precisely across the forehead and around the eyes (crow’s feet). The goal is to retain about 30-50% of your movement. You will still look surprised when you hear shocking news; you just won’t form the deep accordion lines that lead to permanent wrinkles later in life. With a lower dose of Botox you can expect lower duration of activity. One way we can remedy this is by using longer lasting "Botox" products like Daxxify.
Comparison: Med Spa "Deals" vs. DLG Medical Expertise
| Comparison | Discount Med Spa | DLG Expert Standard |
|---|---|---|
| The Goal | "Frozen" by Default. Often use standard, heavy templates regardless of your age. |
✔ "Un-Detectable." Customized micro-dosing to keep you looking like yourself. |
| The Risk | ✘ Heavy Brow. Over-treating the forehead can cause eyebrows to drop, looking tired. |
✔ Bright Eyes. Precise placement that maintains brow height and expression. |
| The Cost Model | Variable. Lure you in with "cheap units" but often oversell unnecessary volume. |
Transparent Flat Fee. You pay for the expertise and result, not the number of drops. |
When Should I Start Preventative Botox?
There is no specific "right age," but there is a right time. The ideal time to start Preventative Botox is when you begin to notice faint lines that linger even after you stop smiling or frowning (often in your mid-to-late 20s or early 30s). If you wait until the lines are deep and etched into the skin (static wrinkles), treating them becomes much more difficult. Starting early with lighter "Baby" doses allows you to maintain smooth skin with less product and fewer visits over your lifetime.
Frequently Asked Questions About Baby Botox
Will Baby Botox make me look frozen? No. This is the primary difference between Baby Botox and standard treatment. Our goal is to simply "soften" the muscle contraction. You will still be able to raise your eyebrows and smile fully—you just won't crinkle the skin as intensely.
How long does Preventative Botox last? Because we use lighter doses (micro-dosing), the results of Baby Botox may be more subtle and wear off slightly faster than a full corrective dose—typically lasting 2.5 to 3.5 months. However, consistent maintenance trains the muscles to relax, often extending results over time. Using the Daxxify brand, which is FDA-approved as a longer lasting product can also be helpful to increase duration.
Can I switch to standard Botox later? Absolutely. Many of our patients start with Baby Botox in their 20s and gradually transition to standard dosing in their 30s or 40s as their muscle strength and skin needs change. It is a seamless transition managed by Dr. Akhavan.
