No matter where we inject Botox, our priority is always to ensure that patients have completely natural looking results as they improve facial lines. The most popular treatment areas for patients in our Upper East Side office include between the eyebrows (also called the glabella or frown lines or the 11's), the forehead wrinkles, periorbital wrinkles (around the eyes, also called crow's feet), the platysma bands (vertical neck lines), and masseter botox for TMJ and teeth grinding. Other popular areas we treat where its use is not FDA approved include the bunny lines, its use to lift eyebrows, and a variety of other aesthetic treatments. We are also experts at performing Trap Tox or trapezius Botox in NYC. This is popular for symptomatic relief of neck and shoulder tension, improving posture, and giving the illusion of an elongated neck. It is also referred to as Swan Neck Botox.

Why you should get Botox at The Dermatology and Laser Group on The Upper East Side
Botox injections are a quick, easy, and highly effective way to rejuvenate the face and even the neck. It is the favorite procedure for patients wanting facial rejuvenation with minimal downtime - in fact there is no downtime! But Botox Cosmetic treatment is a serious medical procedure with potentially serious side effects. As with all cosmetic procedures the best Botox treatments are usually performed by the most qualified physicians. For a NYC Botox procedure we recommend having a consultation with a Board Certified Dermatologist or a Board Certified Plastic Surgeon. A qualified physician will take the time to assess your lines and wrinkles, as well as your muscles contractions and facial expressions. They will have you produce muscle contractions of each facial muscle and see how your dynamic wrinkles are formed. They will mark each injection site before administering Botox in a comfortable manner.
At the Park Avenue office The Dermatology and Laser Group, our Board Certified Dermatologist, Arash Akhavan, MD, FAAD, will be the person that provides your cosmetic consultation and Botox treatments. With a deep understanding of facial anatomy, over 15 years of experience administering Botox in NYC, and a great sense of natural appearing facial aesthetics, we believe that Dr. Akhavan is amongst the best of Botox injectors in New York, and can deliver the safest and most effective treatment.
Dr. Akhavan is also an expert at combining the best Botox injections with other procedures in our NYC office. The Dermatology and Laser Group has been one of the top centers for cosmetics in New York City for over fifteen years. Arash Akhavan, MD, FAAD, is an Associate Professor at The Mount Sinai School of Medicine. He has been honored as a Castle Connolly Top Doc by his peers, a New York Magazine Best Doctor, and a Super Doctor as featured in The New York Times. By serving as an educator and lecturer for multiple aesthetic devices, laser treatments, and injectable companies, Dr. Akhavan gains access to newer technologies and products, as well as the technique to administer them. This higher level of expertise in the use of these products leads to safer and more effective treatments for our patients for NYC Botox treatment as well as other cosmetic treatments.
The Botox NYC Injection Experience
Patients visiting our Upper East Side office in New York find Botox Cosmetic appointment to be simple and enjoyable.
After a consultation, Dr. Akhavan will have you perform a series of movements with your muscles in order to isolate your individual and unique forehead lines, crow's feet, and other facial lines we are treating with Botox Cosmetic. The Botox cost will be determined and discussed before the Botox is injected. The targeted facial muscles are marked with a pencil and the Botox is injected with a special tiny needle that is so small that it is trademarked “The Invisible Needle”. The Botox is injected to reduce lines and wrinkles but always in a manner that produces natural results.
After you leave the office you can resume almost all regular activity immediately. We only ask that you try to refrain from laying face down and exercising on the day of the procedure.
Results are seen in 1-2 weeks. We include a no charge follow-up appointment 2 weeks after when additional Botox can be injected at no cost if needed.

Botox In New York City- Botox Cost
At The Dermatology and Laser Group our main goal is to make sure our patients are satisfied with the final outcome of their procedures. When administering our Botox Cosmetic treatments we charge by the number of areas we are treating. We never charge by units which can lead to under treatment of areas. If an area is under treated with Botox injections the facial wrinkles and facial lines will unfortunately return too quickly.
At our New York City office all injections are done by Dr. Arash Akhavan, a Botox expert Board Certified Dermatologist, and can cost as little as $600 for patients. If more areas are treated, the Botox cost would be higher. We use Botox Cosmetic brand product unless we decide together with the patient that another product such as Daxxify, Xeomin, or Dysport would be preferred. We are always striving to provide the perfect amount of Botox needed for a safe and effective treatment. If a patient needs more Botox than we had anticipated we provide a no cost touchup at two weeks.
Best NYC Botox Cosmetic Treatment - Safety, Efficacy, and Comfort
The three pillars of all aesthetic procedures in our office are Safety, Efficacy, and Comfort. We are working every day to improve these three aspects of every procedure we perform in our office including Botox Cosmetic treatments. We believe this makes us the best place for Botox in NYC.
Botox Safety
Botulinum toxin in the form of Botox Cosmetic is a very safe medication and when injected by a qualified and experienced physician Botox treatment is also very safe. Botox injections must be very carefully placed into the correct facial muscles to prevent asymmetry and other more serious complications such as eyelid ptosis. Eyelid ptosis is also called eyelid droop and it is unfortunately a complication that is seen with Botox injections when the Botox mistakingly gets into the muscles that lift the eyelid. Dr. Akhavan takes pride in never having a patient with eyelid ptosis after many thousands of Botox injections.
Botox Efficacy
As an expert in Botox Injections in New York, Dr. Akhavan understands that Botox treatments must be individualized to each patient's unique facial muscles. Unfortunately there are many providers who have learned their approach to Botox injections and dermal fillers in weekend courses and do not have the experience that a physician who is Board Certified in Dermatology or Plastic Surgery has with Botox treatment.
We provide treatment with Botox Cosmetic, Daxxify, Xeomin, or Dysport depending on each patients individual needs. Two weeks after the Botox injections we look at the lines and wrinkles assessing if there has been a relaxing of forehead lines and frown lines, as well as a softening of the crow's feet. As we favor a natural appearing aesthetic we do not want patients to appear frozen and unable to move. However if a patient wants a stronger treatment we can certainly provide that. With proper injection technique, Botox can have a lifting effect, restoring youthful beauty.
Botox NYC Comfort
Unfortunately the only way to have Botox injected into the muscles of the face is with a needle. But the procedure does not need to be very uncomfortable. For all of our patients we use a special imported needle that has the thinnest diameter to prevent tissue damage and discomfort. For patients wanting even more pain relief, a prescription strength numbing cream, vibration, and cooling can be used to decrease discomfort. Patients only rarely desire to use a numbing cream but pain control is an important part of how we strive to give the best botox treatments.
How does Botox work?
Botox Cosmetic is a brand name for a medication derived from botulinum toxin from the bacterium clostridium botulinum. When the botulinum toxin is injected into muscles, the Botox works by blocking nerve signals to the muscle leading to a relaxation in its contractions. It does so by blocking the transmission of a neurotransmitter called acetylcholine that transmits signals between the nerves and muscles.
Botox thereby relaxes lines and wrinkles such as forehead lines and crow's feet lines. Botox can also be used to treat other conditions such as migraine headaches, excessive sweating, and it can also be used to reduce muscle spasms through a similar mechanism of action involving nerve signals.
Frequently Asked Questions about Botox Injections
What is unique about Botox treatments at The Dermatology and Laser Group?
Amongst the many cosmetic treatments we offer in our office, Botox injections are amongst the quickest. But Botox treatments unfortunately have potentially serious complications and are best performed by a physician with an extensive educational background and experience in Cosmetic Medicine, such as a Board Certified Dermatologist or Plastic Surgeon.
Best Botox in New york
For the best Botox results the Botox should be injected into the proper areas to make sure it effectively relaxes the muscles that area causing wrinkles, but still maintaining completely normal facial expression.
For example frown lines are treated by injection into the frontalis muscle and crow's feet are treated by injection into the orbicularis oculi muscle. Injection into the wrong muscles is the most common cause of complications.
What areas can be treated with Botox in NYC?
Botox is used to improve frown lines, wrinkles on the forehead, crow's feet, bunny lines, and vertical bands on the neck.
It can also be used to improve the appearance of a gummy smile, to help raise a downturned nasal tip, and to provide a fuller lip appearance with a Botox Lip Flip. Drooping corners of the eyebrows can be turned up and lifted when we are injecting the crows feet area. No matter where it is used Botox results in easy and quick cosmetic improvements.
We also use Botox for non cosmetic uses to treat conditions such as excess sweating and TMJ pain with great success. We also offer Botox in the Trapezius muscle "Trap Botox" to help alleviate tension in the shoulder area and to help with aesthetic improvement at the base of the neck- also called Swan Neck Botox. Patients find Trap Botox to be a great relief for muscle spasms in this area as well.
What other procedures do you pair with Botox Cosmetic?
Botox can also be paired with other procedures to add to it's effects of prodcing a more youthful appearance. Botox can only relax lines and wrinkles in areas that have signs of aging from muscle activity- dynamic wrinkles such as frown lines and forehead lines. Fine lines in other areas of the face can be treated with other injectables such as hyaluronic acid dermal fillers and laser procedures. Deep wrinkles can be treated with fillers, or in cases of extreme need a "liquid facelift". The term liquid facelift refers to achieving facelift-like results with just the use of fillers.
Botox results and filler results are best at around 2 weeks but the effects of laser treatments can take many months to see.
Is Botulinum toxin a dangerous substance?
Botox effects come from the medication blocking some of the nerve signals to muscles. The medication works by blocking the neurotransmitter called acetylcholine.
How long will my Botox last?
The best Botox injections typically last between 3-4 months when injected at average doses. If a patient wants lower doses off Botox to allow for more movement they should be aware that the Botox may not last as long. On the other hand, if someone wants their Botox to really freeze their movement one advantage would be that the Botox may last longer. A huge disadvantage in our opinion is that their results may bot be as natural appearing as desired. Dr. Akhavan believes that the best NYC Botox practices would lead to a happy medium of Botox longevity with natural appearing results.
If you would like us to set a reminder to prompt you when it is time for your next treatment, please ask!
What is preventative Botox?
Preventing aging with Botox requires a very deep understanding of facial anatomy and injection points for Botox. For example injections in the forehead can be placed in a way that prevents aging and prevents the brows from getting depressed as a patient gets older. But unfortunately the way many injectors treat the forehead can lead to premature aging in the forehead area.
Do you offer any Botox alternatives in NYC?
Botox Cosmetic, Dysport, Daxxify, and Xeomin are all injectable neurotoxins used primarily for cosmetic purposes such as reducing the appearance of wrinkles and fine lines, although they have medical uses as well. We offer all of these Botox products in our New York City dermatology office. Despite the differences in branding, each of these products is derived from the same substance: botulinum toxin type A, which is produced by the bacterium Clostridium botulinum. The key differences between them are primarily the result of the purification processes and the formulation specifics employed by their respective manufacturers.
Botox Cosmetic, the brand name for onabotulinumtoxinA, was the first of these products to be commercially available and is probably the most well-known. It was developed by Allergan and was first approved by the FDA for cosmetic use in 2002. Botox Cosmetic works by blocking the transmission of nerve impulses to the injected muscles, thereby reducing muscle activity and softening the appearance of wrinkles. It is most commonly used to treat frown lines between the eyebrows (glabellar lines), crow's feet, and forehead lines.
Dysport, or abobotulinumtoxinA, is a similar product developed by Ipsen Biopharm and was approved by the FDA for cosmetic use in 2009. While it contains the same active ingredient as Botox, it is often noted for having a slightly quicker onset of action and a slightly broader area of diffusion. This broader diffusion can be advantageous in treating larger areas, such as the forehead, but it may also require a more skilled injector to avoid spreading to unwanted areas.
Xeomin, or incobotulinumtoxinA, produced by Merz Pharmaceuticals, was FDA approved for cosmetic use in 2011. Xeomin is often referred to as the "naked" neurotoxin because it doesn't contain any additives—only the botulinum toxin type A. This means there's less risk of developing resistance to Xeomin due to antibody formation. This is primarily a concern for people who receive frequent neurotoxin treatments. Similar to Botox and Dysport, Xeomin works by blocking the release of chemicals that cause muscle contractions, thus reducing wrinkles and lines.
When comparing these treatments, it's important to understand that while they are chemically very similar, the units of measure for each are not interchangeable. This is because each product has a unique manufacturing process that affects the potency of the product. For example, 20 units of Botox may not provide the same results as 20 units of Daxxify, Dysport, or Xeomin. The conversion ratios between the products can vary, and precise conversions should be left to medical professionals.
In terms of efficacy and side effects, clinical studies have found all three products to be similarly safe and effective for cosmetic use, with slight variations in onset and duration of effect, as well as spread. Side effects for all three are typically minor and temporary and may include bruising, pain at the injection site, headache, or drooping eyelids. More serious side effects, while rare, can occur and should be discussed with a healthcare provider.
In conclusion, Botox Cosmetic, Dysport, and Xeomin each offer unique advantages and slight differences in formulation and diffusion. However, their underlying mechanism of action as neurotoxins is essentially the same. The choice between them typically depends on patient preference, the area being treated, and the expertise of the injector. It is crucial to remember that the success of these treatments lies in the hands of the injector and their understanding of facial anatomy
We currently offer Dysport, Xeomin, and the newer product- Daxxify, in addition to Botox in NYC.
The great majority of our patients prefer the brand Botox Cosmetic but we have patients that prefer some of the other products.
How can Botox help with excessive sweating?
Botox for hyperhidrosis typically involves a series of small injections into the affected areas, such as the armpits, palms, or soles of the feet.
The treatment only takes a few minutes to complete and has maximum activity 2 weeks after injections. Relief from excessive sweating lasts several months and then injections need to be repeated.
Why is Botox injected into the jaw sometimes?
TMJ Disorder (temporomandibular joint disorder) is a condition characterized by tightness accompanied by pain and discomfort in the jaw area. It is caused by tension and overuse of the jaw muscles.
Botox can be used to weaken one of these jaw muscles called the masseter muscle leading to a relaxation of the jaw and relief from TMJ discomfort.
Patients who suffer from grinding of their teeth have also found that relaxing the masseter muscle with Botox can be helpful.
Another common use of Botox in NYC where we see many international patients is for slimming in the lower face. Many ethnicities find the aesthetics of a slimmed down jaw line to be desirable.
Do you offer Free Consultation?
Our consultation cost is $250 but if you decide to proceed with your Botox appointment in NYC the entire $250 is deducted from the cost of your procedure.
Why not just go to a franchise of a chain injection clinic or a med spa and pay less for my Botox?
Botox Cosmetic is a highly effective and rejuvenating procedure when performed by a trained expert. Only Board Certified Dermatologists and Plastic Surgeons have years of medical school followed by many years of rigorous training that involves mastering cosmetic medical procedures.
Poor Botox outcomes can include asymmetries and drooping eyelids, which can be serious and disturbing side effects of poor Botox treatment. But much more common negative outcomes we see for patients who have seen less qualified providers are patients having an unnatural appearance or having their Botox placed in areas that will accelerate aging rather than prevent it.
In our opinion, in a place like New York City where there is access to many Board Certified Dermatologists and Plastic Surgeons that are experts at Botox injections and other aesthetic medical procedures it is a mistake to see anyone else.
Are there any clinical trials submitted to the FDA for Botox Cosmetic?
Botox Cosmetic, produced by Allergan, is one of the most widely studied cosmetic products available on the market with multiple clinical trials submitted to the FDA for approval for a variety of cosmetic uses.
There have also been numerous double blind, placebo controlled studies done with Botox that have proven its safety and efficacy over the last two decades. It is no wonder that Botox remains one of the top cosmetic products in the world.
